Pastor Carter continued his ‘Greater Expectations’ series with the 4th installment “Obeying God’s Plan”. The text coming from Genesis 6:22, the passage in part of the story of Noah building an ark, commanded by God.
We are to simply embrace obedience.
Obedience is following God’s commandments completely. It means when you hear God’s voice, read His word, you immediately change your life around. It’s His will, not yours. God has the first, second, all the way up to the final say.
Again the cliche ‘If you want to make God laugh, tell Him what you have planned’ comes to mind. Its really nothing cliche about it. God may really have a sense of humor. But telling what you plan on doing, instead of yielding to what HE wants you to do, imagine Him up in Heaven rolling on the holy floors laughing..
We practice ‘partial obedience.’ We only do things that aren’t too hard to do. – Pastor Carter.
We have to realize partial obedience is FULL DISOBEDIENCE. I’m talking to myself on this one. Partially obeying what God commands us to do, is completely disobeying Him. Just as in James only keeping some of His commandments, but NOT ALL of them, we’re guilty of breaking them ALL. That’s like partially obeying your parents. They tell you to finish your homework, clean your room, wash dishes/clean kitchen. But at the end of the night only your room is clean (just barely). No homework was done, kitchen is still dirty, and the tv is on. Your parents wont let you off the hook just because you made up your bed, they wanted you to do everything else. God is the same way. He wants us to obey ALL of His commands. And the thing I fall short on the most, besides falling into disobedience, but into the LIE that Satan wants us to believe, that God’s commands are a burden, or just unbearable. And that’s not the case…
Obeying God isn’t a burden. The indulgence of Sin and disobedience leaves a burden that is heavier than one could ever imagine..
Satan uses fear to push us into disobedience. But obedience is always worth the risk. Disobedience always seem easy, but always cost the most. -Pastor Carter.
There’s a saying by a famous poet and lyricist. “Sin will take you further than you wanted to go, keep you longer than you wanted to stay, and cost you more than you ever wanted to pay.”
Obeying God isn’t hard. If you know God like you say you do, and love Him like you say do, then obedience should be instant.
The better you know God the more you will obey Him and The better your relationship with Christ. Trust that God knows whats best for you. If you obey, God will bless! -Pastor Carter.
Lord, I thank you for the word You gave us through your servant. Bless him, his family, and this church. Lord help me to become obedient to You more and more everyday, in my mind, in my words, and my actions. Help me to grow in this relationship with you more and more, so I can know, love, and obey you more and more each day. In Jesus name, Amen.!
