Man Up! Series: ‘The Heart of a Man’

Posted on

Pastor carter started a new series called Man Up! A series designed to unpack God’s original design of Manhood, as well reveal God’s principles for Growing as a Man. The text came out of the first two chapters in the bible, in Genesis 1&2. When God was starting His creation, after He had created all of nature’s elements, day and night, He created Man in the likeness and the image of God. (Genesis 1:26 says And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Verse 27 says So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.)

In the fact that God created us in His image, we can celebrate who we are. As a man, I can celebrate how God made me, He intended to create me with a purpose and plan, but also the image He intended to create me in was after His image! So no matter how God made you, you have reason to celebrate how you look, the way He naturally made you, not the additions and add-ons, or deductions that you have made to your body, but the natural look God gave you when He made you! when you realize god created you,you can thank God for how He made you!

Not only are we to celebrate who we are, but because God made us, we are responsible to Him. God made me, and because of it, I am responsible to Him. The most important decision in a Man’s life is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and start to line your life up under the Word of God. Being Responsible to God also means you can’t do just whatever you want. One of my favorite scriptures is 1 Corinthians 6:12 says All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.   I can’t do whatever I want to do if I want to be God’s man, even if i want to do those things, I have to line myself up under God, and be pleasing to Him in all my ways, in all my thoughts, words, and actions. I have to possess the will that He has placed in me to Obey Him! I am responsible to God!

Because I am responsible to God, He has given me unlimited possibilities. Limited-less potential.  God has placed in you, and myself all of the tools and supplies, the faith, the power, the strength, everything you (I) need to accomplish what God has called you to do. Just remember as long as you’re not dead, that means God is not done with you! You can do ALL things through Christ which strengthens you!

Not only does a Heart of a Man possess a Will to Obey God, but also a Work attitude. As a Growing Man, i realize that I have work to do. I can’t sit around and be lazy all day. God has powered and pre-wired Man to work. In Genesis, God told Adam to go into the garden of Eden to dress it and keep it. (Genesis 2:15) God commanded Adam to name all of the animals (v. 20) The opposite of work is lazyness. To be lazy is to be idle, and thats breeding ground for Satan to do his evil work. Proverbs 21:25 says The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labor.

Question is: Do you want to be a Contributor or a Consumer?

Last, but not Least, the Heart of a Man must have a WOMAN to Love.  (this almost became a separate sermon in itself!)  In Genesis 2:18, God says Its not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Later in verse 21 the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and took one of his ribs, shaped it, and created a woman. To Love a woman, is to protect and provide for her. As a man growing up, God is showing me examples through my life of how it is to provide and protect  a woman, from when my father was living, how he protected and provided for my mother, to other examples of Godly men in my life providing and protecting their wives, Im understanding more of how important it is to provide and protect your wife ( or future wife, since I haven’t met her yet.)

But also God gives Adam just ONE woman, not multiple women. If you want to line up your life under God, you have to realize that you are to become a ONE woman man! It’s not about how many women you can get with, and keep, but about the one woman God brings to you to pursue, and to love and cherish her for all your life after getting married! Men wont admit to this, but marriage is good for us! Marriage will allow us to escape the trap of giving into sexual impurity in our singleness. Now don’t marry just to have sex, but make sure both you and the woman you are wanting to marry fall in line with God’s will, but also to make sure you that both of you are BOTH pure. finally God gives Adam A WOMAN, NOT ANOTHER MAN. This part is important, because society believes that homosexuality is okay. and It doesn’t matter because the two men, or the two women are faithful to each other, BUT they’re not faithful to GOD! God doesn’t make another man for Adam, Adam doesn’t need another man, He is already a man. God created a woman from Adam, and brought her to him, and they were one flesh! See Genesis 2:23-24.

Now Everyone has their sin struggle, rather it be same sex attraction, or self gratification, lust, pornography, whatever it is, we HAVE ALL SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD.  BUT WE DONT HAVE TO EMBRACE OUR SIN!! We are not to make our sins our lifestyle and choose to live outside God’s will, like its okay. No matter what no one says, no matter what society says. What your favorite rapper says, what your favorite entertainer says, a REAL MAN (and Woman) does what the Word of God says!

The Heart of a Man includes a Will to Obey, Work to Do, Woman to live!

Football season is just weeks away, and the most exciting part of the game is the 2 minute drill. Its when the QB and the offense has only a limited amount of time to read the defense, execute their gameplan, get down field and score a touchdown. It’s the same with a Man striving to be lined up under God! This is our 2 minute drill!! We have to read the defense (satan’s work), receive God’s gameplan for or life, and quickly get down field of Manhood and score a touchdown!!

Finally, Pastor Carter instructed all the men in the Church to take two cards and write on them the list of things they need to Man Up to doing. Especially set aside one thing to work on this week! All the men were to keep one copy, and give the other copy to Pastor.

Here’s what my Man Up Card said…

I, Joseph, will ask God for deliverance & complete victory over lust, pornography, and self gratification. I will stop flirting with girl(s) that I know I have no business flirting with. Even if the girl is Godly and pleasing to You God, I would keep my emotions from getting the best of me. Make all my thoughts and words  and actions pure to you God. I will continue to embrace my singleness, and ask God for strength, patience, and temperance. I will speak over my insecurities and and conquer my depression. I will get my finances together. I will get my finances together!

This week: I will trust, rely, and seek God first in my school life, work life. in ALL AREAS  of my life. I will MAN UP!
